in ictu oculi (in the blink of an eye) Photography has the ability to freeze and capture time. Every image is a readily available time machine capable of transporting all, back in time, using only the viewers’ imagination. Any image has the potential to reinforce or distort the viewer’s perspective and in doing so, open doors into imagination or memory. As part of my photography I sometimes like to play with perception, and make images that do not represent the subject in a conventional manner. Sometimes a familiar object or view, taken from an unconventional angle or very close up, can set the viewer free to imagine all sorts of possibilities.
Shoot first, Ask questions later. Many great photographs have been taken over the years in many different genres. Ken Rockwell said "The most important element of a good photograph is the ability of the photo to communicate with the viewer. It should be able to tell a story through its composition, lighting, and most importantly its subject matter." A good story feeds the imagination, and a healthy imagination can take you anywhere……………………..
As a member of Abertawe Photographic Society, my photography has benefited from technical advice and pier critique from many talented and experienced photographers. This has helped me develop a better understanding of the technical aspects of camera/light control and the confidence to trust my own judgment when selecting images.
Location, Location, Location
Living in South Wales and having two areas of outstanding natural beauty on my doorstep, I have no shortage of opportunities to capture great images. I enjoy all types of photography and try to make an image from any location I find myself in. As location is one third of the golden trinity, all I have to attempt to control is the light and the camera…….Should be easy! Right?.................
